The BBC 1 show is finally back
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. Finally, after what feels like an eternity, The Great British Bake Off is returning to our TV screens, a new batch of contestants ready to impress Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood.
Not sure what time, which channel, or who is who? Look no further, as we have rounded up everything you need to know about 2016’s season of Bake Off.
How to watch - what time, which channel
The basics: The Great British Bake Off will debut on BBC 1 at 8:00pm. It will then air at the same time every week, for ten weeks following, every Wednesday. The show will also be available on iPlayer following each episode.
The judges and presenters
As always, Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood will be judging the various cakes while Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc return as presenters. Expect ‘soggy bottom’ puns.
Who is competing?
Twelve contestants will be baking it out to win this year’s competition, among them a ‘Hell’s Angel’, a builder-turned-pastor, and a TED talker. Flick through below or check out our interesting facts piece.
Number of episodes
Unlike last year, there are eleven episodes this season, adding one to the classic mix. That takes us all the way to November.
What challenges lie ahead?
First week is cake week, so expect classic sponges as per usual. Another change this year is Batter Week, with Mary Berry recently called “nigh impossible,” Paul Hollywood adding: “I don’t want to reveal too much, but we wanted something a little different, a little bit taxing. The challenge was tricky, but fun.”
Who is going to win?
A little early to tell seeing as we have yet to meet the competitors but - thanks to the power of the internet - we have been able to have an in-depth look at each person’s blog/Instagram stream to judge who has the best chances. You can have a gander here.
