From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Gavin and Stacey star Mathew Horne has poured cold water on the suggestion that there would be another one-off special ready to broadcast this Christmas.

Speaking to Digital Spy, the comedian and actor said: ”It’s almost impossible really for James [Corden] and Ruth [Jones] to write any more at the moment considering the [lockdown] situation.

“They don’t like to write remotely, they always have to be in the same room, and that’s certainly not been possible for a long while now,” he continued.

“So any rumours that there are… I heard a rumour from one of my friends the other day that we’re making another Christmas special this year, which is ridiculous.”

Co-star Larry Lamb recently said that the hit BBC comedy would return again after the success of last year’s Christmas reunion.

And while Horne, who plays Gavin Shipman on the series, agreed another outing was likely, he seemed to suggest that it could be a while before anything reaches screens.

“I have had no conversations about it,” he said, ”My personal view, is I don’t think that James and Ruth can possibly leave it where it is.

“Because, you know, we left it on a cliffhanger and I don’t think it would be right to leave it there.”

“But I’m only speculating,” he added. ”I have no idea. I think when logistics and time permit, they may get their heads together but I don’t know when that will be.”
