Game of Thrones fans can now sit on the Iron Throne – if they can find it, that is.

HBO has hidden the coveted chair somewhere in the world and wants the show’s feverish fanbase to go out looking for it.

The American network launched the #ForTheThrone campaign yesterday, posting an hour-long video of the Iron Throne sat in a forest on YouTube.

On the campaign’s official website a countdown has begun ticking down, alongside a message asking fans to “claim the throne before time runs out”.

When someone does take a seat on that throne, another throne will appear somewhere in the world and, presumably, another mysterious video will be posted, hinting at its location. There are six in total.

HBO has previously used #ForTheThrone to advertise the upcoming eighth season of Game of Thrones, having posted 20 posters online with the hashtag on Twitter. Each poster features a different major character on the Iron Throne.

The eighth season of Game of Thrones starts on 14 April. Read all about the upcoming episodes here.
