From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Emilia Clarke is Vanity Fair's cover story this month, and during the interview she confirmed that, while she probably has a little more filming still to do, she has shot Daenerys' "final on-screen moments".
Given how fiercely the show guards spoilers you might have expected her to stop here, but what she said next is very interesting:
"It fucked me up. Knowing that is going to be a lasting flavour in someone’s mouth of what Daenerys is…"
This could be any flavour, of course, but the way Clarke phrased this it does sound as though we may leave the show feeling conflicted about Daenerys. She has been a bit of an anti-hero for some time now, largely a force for good in Westeros but with tendencies toward dictatorship.
You could also interpret Clarke's words as suggesting that Daenerys survives.
The interview also confirms Clarke has been "shooting for the first time with several of the show’s top stars, including Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark)," while the actress noted that during film she has been "doing all this weird shit - you'll know what I mean when you see it." Intriguing.
Game of Thrones season 8 has yet to be given a release date but is expected early 2019.
