From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

“I didn't even know what shipping means,” Yara Greyjoy actor Gemma Whelan told Digital Spy of the fan talk about a potential romance between her character and Daenerys Targaryen.
“It's been all over my Twitter - 'I ship these two' - and I've been asked about it at conventions too - 'Who would you ship?' - and I have no idea what they mean. But if it's a positive thing then yeah, sure, let's ship!"
Getting more firmly in the shippers’ corner, she continued: "I think she and Daenerys should sail off into the sunset with the Seven Kingdoms holding hands. I think that's probably about right. Tyrion can stay there, Theon's got to be there - he can be my Hand!"
Daenerys actor Emilia Clarke is similarly game for the romance, recently declaring: "Bring on the ladies!"
Whelan added in an interview with Vulture: "Emilia and I both enjoy the idea. [Laughs.] We get along very well, so we enjoy working with each other quite a lot. So maybe! I don’t know! It’s up to the writers and the machinations of their minds. We like each other, we reflect each other, and whether it’s more than friendship is irrelevant, really."
The Iron Islands sub-plot got a lot more interesting in season 6, and its events came as a shock to Whelan.
"I didn't expect to meet Daenerys, blimey," Whelan added. "I knew my story was going to get more traction in later series, but I didn't quite know I'd be surrounded by dragons in season six.”
Sadly for Yara, it looks as though Daenerys is after a husband in season 7.
