From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Well, it looks as if someone finally slipped up: Emilia Clarke AKA Daenerys Targaryen posted a major season 7 spoiler to her Instagram page, revealing that the show would see the addition of new cast members... Dora the Explorer and Spongebob Squarepants?
OK, that doesn't sound right at all; yet Clarke teased that the picture taken for her 30th birthday celebrations on set, alongside the beloved Nickelodeon characters, did reveal spoilers for the show. Somehow.
She teased the image contained both "spoilers", "show runners", and "Jon Snow's mum". Presumably that's showrunner David Benioff adding some muscle to the Dora the Explorer costume, but does that mean "Jon Snow's mum" is in the Spongebob outfit?
In light of season 6's finale reveal, that would surely make it Aisling Franciosi in the costume, who played Lyanna Stark during Bran's time-travelling visions. Does that mean the character will be making a return for season 7? Is there more of Jon Snow's origins to be unveiled?
Clarke may just be having a little fun with fans, but some interesting snippets of information have managed to make their way from the Game of Thrones set: from a meeting to end all meetings, a reunion in the south, and the return of a long-lost character.
Game of Thrones season 7 will consist of seven episodes and arrive on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic in the UK in summer 2017.
