From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

When Game of Thrones season 7 episode 6 was accidentally released early by HBO last week, many fans pleaded with the network to just be done with it and release the final episode too.

It's possible they will get their wish, albeit through less kosher means.

The group behind the HBO hack who go by the name "Mr. Smith Group" threatened over the weekend to follow up their script leaks with leaks pertaining to the season's final episodes.

"Be ready for GOT S& E6 &E7 as soon as possible," the group warned HBO (sic), in an email forwarded to Mashable.

It may be bluffing in terms of having ownership of the actual episodes themselves - both the leaks this season have come directly from HBO - but it is very possible they have a script outline for the final episode similar to the ones released for episodes 4 and 5.

HBO declined to comment on the latest threat, referring publishers back to this previous statement:

"We are not in communication with the hacker and we’re not going to comment every time a new piece of information is released. It has been widely reported that there was a cyber incident at HBO. The hacker may continue to drop bits and pieces of stolen information in an attempt to generate media attention. That’s a game we’re not going to participate in. Obviously, no company wants their proprietary information stolen and released on the internet. Transparency with our employees, partners, and the creative talent that works with us has been our focus throughout this incident and will remain our focus as we move forward. This incident has not deterred us from ensuring HBO continues to do what we do best."

Game of Thrones season 7 concludes on HBO, Sky Atlantic and through NOWTV on Sunday night.
