One such reunion occurred between Clegane brothers, Sandor and Gregor - otherwise known as the Hound and the Mountain - and, despite speculation they'd face off in this episode, their long-anticipated duel - referred to by fans as Cleganebowl - has seemingly been set for season eight.
The moment in question saw The Hound approach his silent rival sibling after arriving in King's Landing, goading him about being the uglier brother.
“This isn't how it ends for you, brother,” he rasps, cryptically, the moment serving as a knowing nod to fans who have been patiently waiting for the two to duel ever since their unfinished battle in season one.
The moment has been teased for some time, most obviously earlier this season when The Hound was seen saying the word ‘Mountain’ when looking into the flames of the future.
It seems the editors of the finale's trailer duped hopeful fans having included a brief shot of The Hound unsheathing a sword upon his return to King's Landing with many hoping this would be the moment he goes face-to-face with his brother. Instead, he was using the sword to open the box containing the Wight which he had escorted from beyond the wall to present to Cersei Lannister.
Game of Thrones returns for its eighth and final season in 2018.
