From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Game of Thrones season 6 episode 7 - ‘The Broken Man’ - was largely given over to a returning character, but it was a brand new one that had its best scene.

Diminutive lord of House Mormont Lyanna proved an incredibly skilled negotiator for her age, and Jon and Sansa underestimated her.

She had them on the back foot several times as they sought her allegiance, with cutting lines like: “Bear Island knows no king but the King in the North, whose name is Stark … As far as I understand you’re a Snow and Lady Sansa is a Bolton … or is she a Lannister? I’ve heard conflicting reports,” with Ser Davos eventually having to step in and flatter her.

But not only is she already skilled at the art of politics, she’s out there on the battlefield too.

In a still from a brief scene below, she can be seen joining her 62 men at base camp:

Many lords would simply dispatch an army of soldiers, but Lyanna will apparently be marching with hers. Hell, I wouldn’t put it past her to actually be one of the 62 fighters she promised.

Team Stark is looking a little lacking at the moment - consisting of a few surviving wildlings and Mormont’s small force - but the decoding of Sansa’s mysterious letter today suggests another house will be joining the fray.
