From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

With just one month to go until Game of Thrones season five reaches our living rooms, another teaser trailer has dropped and Daenerys’ dragons are looking fighting fit.

The 33-second clip sees Lord Varys explain to Tyrion the qualities that Westeros’ next ruler must possess as fans are given a glimpse at the Iron Throne contenders.

“The Seven Kingdoms need someone strong, a ruler loved by millions with a powerful army and the right family name,” Varys says, only for Tyrion to reply: “Good luck finding him”.

“Who said anything about him?” comes the response, before a shot of frightened Daenerys in the shadows and a burst of dragon fire.

Elsewhere, Prince Oberyn’s daughters are busy plotting their revenge on the Lannisters, Arya Stark is preparing to join the Faceless Men and Stannis Barathoen is growing in strength in the North.

Emilia Clake, Peter Dinklage, Maisie Williams, Kit Harington, Lena Headey and the rest of the Thrones gang yet to be killed off return to HBO on Sunday 12 April before heading to the UK the following day on Sky Atlantic.

The season five global premiere takes place at the Tower of London tomorrow evening.
