Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.People really like Game of Thrones. People really like re-purposing smartphone emojis. Inevitably, this has led to the two colliding in an inspired recap of the HBO show in the run-up to season 4 that uses exclusively emoticons.

The low fantasy drama returns on Sunday, and if you're frantically trying to catch-up this might prove a swifter option than binge-watching hours of TV.
The video, pulled together by Cara Rose DeFabio, doesn't squeeze in every last plot point but covers the main events, including Jon Snow’s love affair with Ygritte, Daenerys Targaryen and her growing army and the infamous Red Wedding.
Once you're up to date (because obviously the Unicode set of emojis is just as good as the real thing, right) you can begin watching season 4 on Sunday night, when it airs on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic in the UK at the same time (2am BST).
There have been seemingly more trailers for the show than their are characters in it over the past couple of months, teasing much fire, vengeance and malice.
