From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Former Bond girl Honor Blackman is set to make a guest appearance in Casualty playing a feisty pensioner on a mission.

The star, who made her name in The Avengers and played Pussy Galore in Goldfinger, ends up in hospital after being hit by a cyclist and begins to reveal details of her life including a stint driving ambulances in African warzones.

Her appearance in Saturday's episode of the long-running BBC medical drama coincides with the introduction of a new character, a trainee doctor called Lily Chao, played by Crystal Yu.

The second episode of the new series will see the introduction of another new character, a nurse called Rita Freeman, played by Chloe Howman who is the daughter of Brush Strokes star Karl Howman.

Executive producer Oliver Kent said: "We've had a long history of famous guest appearances, but never a Bond girl. Honor plays a fantastically witty and charming character on a mission. Meanwhile, our two new regular characters, Lily and Rita hit the ground running and are set to create a stir in the ED."
