Friends episodes to be shown in cinemas to mark sitcom’s 25th anniversary

Classic episodes, including The One with Ross’s Wedding, will be included

Twelve episodes of Friends will be screened in cinemas from September in celebration of the long-running sitcom’s 25th anniversary.

Fans in the US will be able to watch a run of episodes one after another on 23 September, 28 September and 2 October, broken up by behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with the cast and crew. 1,000 US cinemas are taking part in the event.

Selected due to being “fan favourites”, the episodes to be screened include the very first episode, The One with the Prom Video, The One with the Embryos, The One with Ross’s Wedding, The One Where Everyone Finds Out and The One Where Ross Got High. Intriguingly, no episodes from seasons seven through 10 are to be included.

Sadly for British fans who would like to watch the series on the big screen, it is currently unknown if the Friends cinema release will be replicated in the UK.

“We could not be more excited to deliver these digitally remastered episodes to theatres – for the first time ever! – so that together, in a shared experience, our loyal fans can enjoy some of their favourite Friends scenes in a new way,” Warner Bros Television Chief Marketing Officer Lisa Gregorian said in a statement.

The screenings mark the latest in a run of recent Friends merchandising developments in recent weeks, including a Lego tie-in, a Pottery Barn furniture collection (complete with apothecary table) inspired by the sitcom and an “immersive experience” that will debut in New York later this year.
