Kristin Scott Thomas is set to guest star in the second series of Fleabag, along with Fiona Shaw.
The actors have both landed roles on Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s comedy-drama, which is set to return today.
Fleabag premiered on BBC Three in July 2016. It is based on Waller-Bridge’s one-woman play of the same name, which won an Edinburgh Fringe First Award.
Here is everything we know so far about the show’s second series:
The cast
Scott Thomas and Shaw are joining the second series as guest stars.
Sherlock star Andrew Scott was previously announced as another addition to the cast – read The Independent’s exclusive interview with him here.
Olivia Colman, Hugh Skinner, Sian Clifford, Brett Gelman, Bill Paterson, Jenny Rainsford and Hugh Dennis are all set to return.
The trailer
A short trailer for the season was released last month on the BBC Three Twitter account.
The plot
Some details about the plot of this upcoming second series have emerged.
Waller-Bridge’s character will meet a priest (played by Scott) who will change the way she sees the world.
Fleabag and her sister Claire will be brought back together after an unexpected attack. Another side of Claire will begin to emerge, causing tensions.
The title character is also still working on her relationship with her father and the Godmother character played by Colman.
Waller-Bridge said of the religious theme: “I felt like it really resonated with me, an atheist trying to find meaning in the world where everything was so confusing.”
The release date
Fleabag’s second season will premiere in the UK on March 4, airing on BBC Three.
It will be available for US viewers on Amazon Prime on May 17.
