From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Andrew Scott were filmed handing out G&Ts to queueing fans outside the stage show of Fleabag in the West End.

The show’s writer and creator Waller-Bridge appeared outside the Wyndham Theatre in London with her on-screen love interest before a show on Saturday 7 September.

The two characters famously bonded over M&S cans of the alcoholic drink in the second series of the comedy-drama. Sales of the drink rose by 24 per cent following the scene, according to the retailer.

Alexei, who filmed the interaction, told The Guardian: “Just before the box office opened, Andrew Scott came out followed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge carrying boxes of M&S G&T, giving them away to everyone in the queue.”

“No one could believe it was actually happening! Phoebe Waller-Bridge thanked everyone for waiting for hours and said that she hoped people would get tickets and would enjoy the show.

She added: “Andrew was carrying slimline G&T, whilst PWB [Waller-Bridge] had the ‘full-fat one’, as she said. It was a huge surprise to everyone and was very nice of them. Everyone was in shock.”

Fleabag shows are running until 14 September.
