Family Guy roasts Donald Trump's finances in episode 'Trump Guy'

The latest episode of Family Guy saw Peter Griffin face off against Donald Trump who was referenced as another “fat idiot who once had a hit television show and who over time has worn out his welcome”.

The episode, titled “Trump Guy”, sees the Griffins relocate to Washington DC after Peter is made Trump’s press secretary. Ivanka Trump is seen to give Meg a makeover, telling her: “When I’m done with you, you’ll be pretty enough to marry an Orthodox Jewish son of a felon who’s too stupid to get into Harvard the normal way.”

The episode also takes a more serious turn, as Peter and Lois initially dismiss their daughter when she tells them she was sexually assaulted by Trump, before Peter walks in on another incident, with Trump imagined as a Jabba the Hut-like figure.

Peter goes after Trump, although the president retorts: “If Peter Griffin gets to be a jerk all the time, then why can’t Donald Trump?” The episodes ends with a confrontation on the White House lawn and a fight that carries across several famous DC landmarks, ending with them stranded on the Washington Monument.

As both begin to plummet down, the pair are suddenly saved by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who sets up a giant Maple Leaf airbag on the ground.

“We’ve had some episodes in the past that had some left leanings in them, but we take hard shots all around,” executive producer Alec Sulkin told TVLine. “We’ve made fun of the Clintons and Barack Obama. It’s not like we would avoid anyone because we vote this way or that way. In any time that Family Guy has been on, we’ve pointed out idiots and the dumb things they do.”

“This just happens to be our current person, and it would be no different if a Democrat were doing something idiotic, which they do.”

"We’re not proselytising for one political agenda; hypocrisy, lying and buffoonery in the public sphere should just be called out," added fellow ep Rich Appel.

The pair said that they weren’t particularly concerned about the consequences of showing a physical fight with the president, as Appel added: “It crossed my mind early on, but then I just remembered from law school that the First Amendment protects primarily any free speech against the United States and our elected officials, so we’re good.”
