Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. It’s a big day for the TV world. Nominations for this year’s Emmy Awards (their Oscars) will be revealed live, with Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Orange is the New Black and Veep among the series expected to earn plenty of nods.
Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls) and Anthony Anderson (Black-ish) will present the announcement live from the Wolf Theatre at the Academy’s Saban Media Center, with fans able to join in the fun by watching via a YouTube livestream (see above). They will begin listing the nominees from 11.30am ET (8.30am PT and 4.30pm GMT).
Nominees will be announced across a range of categories from best drama and best comedy to the best lead and supporting actors from both genres. Best limited series is likely to be fiercely fought race, with American Crime Story, Fargo and American Horror Story among the possible contenders.
The Emmy nominations are a result of TV shows putting forward various scripts and actors for accolades. Last year saw How to Get Away with Murder’s Viola Davis named the first black winner of the Outstanding Actress gong while Veep dominated the comedy field and Game of Thrones triumphed in the drama writing, directing and supporting actor categories.
The 2016 ceremony takes place on 18 September, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
