Harwick, a sex and family therapist, was killed on Saturday (15 February) in her Hollywood Hills home. Police said her injuries were “consistent with a fall”.
Her ex-boyfriend, Gareth Pursehouse, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder. His bail has been set at $2m (£1.53m) pending a court appearance.
In a statement, Carey reflected on the life of Harwick, who he was engaged to for a year before their split in 2018.
“Amie and I had a love that people are lucky to have once in a lifetime,” Carey said. “She was a positive force in the world, a tireless and unapologetic champion for women, and passionate about her work as a therapist.”
He continued, “I am overcome with grief. I would like to thank you in advance for giving myself and everyone who loved Amie privacy while we try to work through this tragic situation.
Production on The Price Is Right, the long-running game show Carey hosts, has been halted for a week to allow Carey to mourn.
Pursehouse remains in police custody. Police confirmed on Sunday that Harwick had previously filed a restraining order against the suspect, but that it had expired.
