From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Twin Peaks creator David Lynch has said that he thinks Donald Trump "could go down as one of the greatest presidents in history".

In an interview with The Guardian, Lynch said that the US president could become significant for successfully disrupting the political system.

"He could go down as one of the greatest presidents in history because he has disrupted the thing so much," he said. "No one is able to counter this guy in an intelligent way."

The 72-year-old also suggested that while Trump is not doing a good job, he was creating a space where others might.

"Our so-called leaders can’t take the country forward, can’t get anything done. Like children, they are. Trump has shown all this," he said.

Lynch also revealed that he was a Bernie Sanders supporter in 2016, but switched his support to back the Libertarian candidate (Gary Johnson) during the presidential election.

"I am not really a political person, but I really like the freedom to do what you want to do," he said.

The interview also focused on his new memoir Room To Dream, co-written by author Kristine McKenna, where Lynch chronicles his upbringing, career trajectory, personal relationships and family life.
