CBS has cancelled CSI: Cyber after two seasons, effectively ending the Crime Scene Investigation franchise after a seemingly inexorable run.
The network has decided not renew the latest iteration of the forensics drama, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which was supposed to breathe life into the series.
"It's an amazing franchise and a very solid show,” CSI creator Anthony Zuiker previously said. “Because the future of crime is cyber, there's no reason why it shouldn't continue."
CSI: Cyber, which followed CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: Miami and CSI: NY, starred Patricia Arquette, Ted Danson and James Van Der Beek, the former actor discussing the cancellation on Twitter, offering: “So much thanks and admiration [to] our crew.”
As of March 13, 2016, 797 episodes of the CSI franchise have aired, which will still be repeated for years to come.
