On Instagram, Cox at first jokingly complained about being sent GIFs of the Friends scene every Thanksgiving by fans.
“I’m feeling so thankful and also if I get one more goddamn GIF of that turkey on my hand dancing like a f***ing fool, I’m just gonna snap,” she said.
The iconic moment stems from a 1998 episode of the long-running sitcom. The scene saw Monica attempt to cheer up her boyfriend Chandler (Matthew Perry) by putting the bird on her head, before decorating it with sunglasses and a fez. She then does a dance, before Chandler tells her that he loves her for the first time.
In her Instagram video, Cox joked that she was finally embracing the scene, telling fans: “Since I’m the symbol of Thanksgiving, here you go. I hope it makes you happy.”
Cox then recreated the moment using a turkey and a pair of sunglasses similar to the ones she wore on the show.
The video was met with joy from Cox’s real-life friends as well as fans of the hit series.
“You did that!” commented Cox’s Friends co-star Lisa Kudrow, who played Phoebe on the series.
Reese Witherspoon, who portrayed the sister of Jennifer Aniston’s Rachel, wrote: “Love you sister.”
Melissa Barrera, who stars with Cox in a forthcoming Scream sequel, commented: “An icon.”
One fan, named GreekGoddessAniston, wrote: “You really got your head inside that dead turkey just for us?? I’m so thankful.”
An unscripted Friends reunion, which will see the cast sit down and discuss their memories of the show for the first time since 2004, will finally shoot in 2021, Matthew Perry confirmed this month (12 November).
The special, for US streaming service HBO Max, was originally supposed to be made earlier this year, but was delayed by the pandemic.
