From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

They all posted photos from the same shoot, standing in front of a Ferrari LaFerrari, a McLaren P1, and a Porsche 918 - a bit of a middle finger to the BBC as this was a race rumoured to be featuring in Top Gear before the infamous ‘fracas’.
“With a skeleton crew, filming for Amazon Prime's new motoring programme has begun,” Clarkson wrote, with Hammond adding: “The band is back together and it feels brilliant."
May echoed their sentiments, writing: “Great first day at work. I can't stop staring.”
It isn’t clear why the show is currently operating with a mere “skeleton crew”, given the eye-watering budget it’s been granted by Amazon Prime.
A title and teaser trailer for the show can probably be expected soon, the former being rumoured to be the very frank ‘Gear Knobs’, which copyright was filed for by Clarkson’s lawyers.
With Top Gear producer Andy Wilman on board, the show is set to continue down the irreverent, adventure-based route that the trio carved on Top Gear, with shoots set to take place around the world.
