Claire Foy has revealed she was not offended by Adam Sandler’s repeated touching of her knee throughout their appearance on the Graham Norton chat show.

Sandler was criticised for twice placing a hand on her knee while telling an anecdote.

Foy made a gesture that he should remove his hand, which he did. She then patted Sandler’s hand when he placed it on his own knee.

Sandler made the same gesture and Foy patted his hand again, looking a little uncomfortable, and made another motion for him to remove his hand.

In footage of the incident, fellow chat show guests, Emma Thompson and Cara Delevingne, can be seen watching the encounter.

According to the MailOnline, Foy's spokesperson said:"We don't believe anything was intended by Adam's gesture and it has caused no offence to Claire."

Sandler's spokesperson told the publication that the action was a "friendly gesture".

Sandler made a similar move when he patted Dustin Hoffman’s knee during a recent US talk show.

But social media users were not impressed by the behaviour.

“Adam Sandler touching Claire Foy's knee for no reason, she puts his hand back, he then does it again, she looked rightly pissed off,” wrote Emily Ward.

“Emma Thompson and Clare Foy looking uncomfortable with Adam Sandler grabbing their legs on #GrahamNorton but no comment. This is not OK,” added Louise Robertson.

Following allegations of sexual abuse and harassment from dozens of women against Harvey Weinstein, Emma Thompson has spoken out about the "endemic sexism" in Hollywood.

She told Newsnight that the allegations were the “tip of the iceberg”.

Delevingne also recently revealed she once stood up to sing in front of Weinstein to prevent him from making an unwanted advance.

In recent weeks, allegations of sexual abuse and harassment have been levelled at multiple high-profile men in the media, fashion and Hollywood industries.
