From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Christopher Abbott, better known as the actor who plays Marni’s boyfriend Charlie in Girls, is leaving the show.

The actor is reported to have left the third series of the hit HBO drama after clashing with writer and co-star Lena Dunham.

“They’ve just started work on season three and Chris is at odds with Lena. He didn’t like the direction things are going in, which seems a bit odd since the show put him on the map,” a source told the New York Post.

Things were just getting good again for Abbott’s character Charlie at the end of season two when he got back together with former girlfriend Marni, but it looks like their on-off relationship will now be off again.

Abbott’s agent confirmed the departure, saying: “[Chris] is grateful for the experience of collaborating with Lena, Judd [Apatow], and the entire Girls cast and crew, but right now he’s working on numerous other projects and has decided not to return to the show.”

Abbott recently appeared in indie movie Burma and is due to star in forthcoming film The Sleepwalker, currently in post-production.

Series three of Girls is currently being filmed, and a release date is yet to be set by HBO.
