Celebrity Gogglebox star Eamonn Holmes furious with show for ‘cruel and idiotic’ edit

Eamonn Holmes has called the producers of Celebrity Gogglebox ”idiotic and cruel” for editing out a story he shared about the tragic death of his father.

The This Morning host said he is “hurt beyond BELIEF” that the C4 entertainment series “chose” to use “a funny story” in place of the one he told about his father, who died after having a heart attack at the side of a road.

“In reply to a number of complaints .... I am hurt beyond belief that @C4Gogglebox chose not to use me talking about my Father dying from a heart attack at the side of a road and replace it with a funny story following a young lad giving his father CPR,” he wrote, adding: “Idiotic and cruel edit.”

Holmes continued: “So following a tragedy that has forever haunted my family, I am in no mood for criticising holier than thou mouthpieces on here who haven’t gone through what we did. An atrocious edit @StudioLambert ”.

Holmes appeared on the show with his wife Ruth Langsford. The pair were seen watching a documentary about a 10-year-old, who bravely resuscitated his dad back to life after he had a heart attack.

Instead of broadcasting the story about Holmes’ father, though, they showed the presenter joking about how he managed to get Langsford to the hospital “in the nick of time” when they were having their son, Jack, in 2002.

Holmes was prompted to criticise the show after he was called out for being insensitive to the documentary they were watching.

“Only Eamonn Holmes can turn a child saving his own father into a story about how great he is for driving his wife to hospital,” one person wrote on Twitter.

Holmes, who is demanding an apology, wrote: “I had nothing but praise and emotion for the ambulance control room TV programme.”
