Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

As 14 new contestants prepare to enter the Celebrity Big Brother house tonight, it’s time to get to know those expected a little better.

Who? Leslie Jordan, actor.

Where do I know that face from? Leslie is best known for his role as Beverley Leslie on hit US sitcom Will and Grace, for which he won an Emmy for Outstanding Actor.

He was most recently in the last series of American Horror Story: Coven.

Little known fact Leslie grew up in a highly conservative, deeply religious atmosphere in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and learned to use humour as a shield to defend him from bullies.

What can we expect in the house? Leslie has worked with Hollywood stars including George Clooney, Faye Dunaway, Robert Downy Jr and Billy Bob Thornton, so he’s sure to have a few stories to tell.

Odds of winning? 14/1

Hosted by Emma Willis, series seven of the hit reality show airs on Channel 5, with viewers promised “countless twists, turns and tough tasks”.

The house has been given a make-over for the new run, but celebrities will not be expecting VIP treatment but, instead, plenty of drama and tension.

Last year’s show was won by Geordie Shore’s Charlotte Crosby, who beat 5ive singer Abz Lowe to the title.
