Caroline Flack from Love Island charged with assault

Caroline Flack is standing down as Love Island host after an assault charge.

Flack was arrested on Thursday 12 December after an altercation with her boyfriend Lewis Burton at their shared Islington home. Onlookers said there were six police cars present, as well as an ambulance.

The presenter told The Sun: “Love Island has been my world for the last five years, it’s the best show on telly. In order to not detract attention from the upcoming series I feel the best thing I can do is to stand down for series six.

“I want to wish the incredible team working on the show a fantastic series in Cape Town.”

Since the assault, Burton has defended Flack against what he called a “witch hunt”.

On his Instagram Story, he wrote: “I’m tired of the lies and abuse aimed at my girlfriend. This is not a witch hunt this is someone’s life.”

He continued: “I have not signed any NDA. Why would I? Caroline is the most lovely girl. Loyal and kind. She doesn’t deserve any of this.”

Flack is set to appear on bail at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on 23 December.

The winter series of Love Island remains scheduled to begin on 8 January.

A replacement presenter is expected to be announced in due course.
