From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It sees Die Hard superfan Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) get to live out his own fantasy version of the action film, as he finds himself stuck on a rooftop alongside Amy (Melissa Fumero), Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) and Terry (Terry Crews).
Realising the entire building is about to explode, Jake finds a way to let his coworkers escape, while he takes the more heroic route of doing a slow-motion, gravity-defying leap off the top, catching a lift from an evacuating helicopter.
The show makes a slightly miraculous return on NBC after being cancelled by original broadcaster Fox earlier this year, citing a lack of room on their upcoming schedule to continue the cop comedy.
Unfortunately, the network failed to count on how beloved the series really was, as thousands of fans expressed outrage online. Soon enough, though, NBC came to the rescue, snatching the series from Fox and saving the day.
The teaser also revealed an air date, with the show making its return on 10 January.
The first episode is expected to reveal whether Holt has been named as the NYPD's next commissioner, while we'll also follow newlyweds Jake and Amy on their honeymoon. The season will also see Gina (Chelsea Peretti) make her exit from the show, although there are plans to bring her back in the future.
