From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

According to Deadline, the studio is looking to corner the millennial market in partnership with leading brands and digital platforms. As Studio L Executive Vice President Seth Laderman said, “In today’s fast-changing media landscape, Lionsgate is committed to creating and distributing various types of content for next-generation audiences with some of the most exciting creative voices and innovative partners in our industry."
“The projects announced today signal our commitment to finding stand-out material, incubating new talent, and delivering authentic storytelling. We will also continue to cultivate and foster fresh opportunities with existing Lionsgate properties, all built around Studio L’s low-risk, high-reward distribution model.”
The Blair Witch Project series is only one of many: including coming-of-age female-driven drama The Honor, featuring a cast boasting prominent social media presences; Most Likely To Murder, starring The Mindy Project’s Adam Pally and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend‘s Rachel Bloom; and Chicken Girls: The Movie, based off the popular YouTube series.
Studio L is also working on film production partnerships with both BuzzFeed and The Onion, while also creating a TV adaptation of Waiting, which originally starred Ryan Reynolds and Anna Faris. The film followed the lives of several waiters employed at a restaurant called Shenaniganz.
A sequel to the original, Blair Witch, was released in 2016 to a poor critical reception and box office disappointment, but its clear Lionsgate still thinks there's money to be made out of the franchise.
