The Killing of a Sacred Deer filmmaker is still open to the idea

Yorgos Lanthimos - director of such films as Dogtooth and The Lobster - almost added Black Mirror to his résumé.

The Greek filmmaker, whose new film The Killing of a Sacred Deer is released in cinemas this week, exclusively revealed to The Independent that he was approached by series creator Charlie Brooker to oversee an episode of the new season.

“It’s been discussed,” Lanthimos said. “We never got around to doing one, but I met the guys. It would have been interesting.

He hinted that he's still open to the idea, adding: “Maybe one day in the future.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Lanthimos expressed he's flirted with the idea of reworking his little-seen film Alps into a TV series. Released in 2011, the release follows a group of people who start a business where they impersonate the recently deceased in order to help their clients through the grieving process.

“I’ve played around with the notion of making a series on the premise of Alps because it’s one of the films no one saw,“ he said.

Black Mirror season 4 is expected to arrive on Netflix next month with episodes directed by Jodie Foster and John Hillcoat.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer is in cinemas on Friday (3 November).
