From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The release date for the fifth season of Black Mirror has been announced by Netflix.

The trailer for the forthcoming season, which will consist of three episodes, features pop singer Miley Cyrus, Fleabag’s Andrew Scott, and Avengers: Endgame actor Anthony Mackie.

Other actors who will appear in the anthology series include Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Topher Grace, Damson Idris, Nicole Beharie, Pom Klementieff, Angourie Rice, Madison Davenport and Ludi Lin.

Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones return as showrunners for the new season, which will debut on Netflix on the 5 June.

Last year, the choose-your-own-adventure Black Mirror episode Bandersnatch, starring Fionn Whitehead and Will Poulter, was released.

Brooker and Jones previously said that the “enormous” amount of work required on creating Bandersnatch’s many pathways meant that the remainder of season five had to be delayed.

The official synopsis for Black Mirror reads: “Black Mirror is an anthology series that taps into our collective unease with the modern world, with each stand-alone episode a sharp, suspenseful tale exploring themes of contemporary techno-paranoia leading to an unforgettable – and sometimes unsettling – conclusion.”
