Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker has teased a TV special about 2020 that’s coming to Netflix soon.

On Thursday (3 December), the writer shared a video to Twitter about a new episode titled “Death to 2020”.

The 10-second teaser reads: “2020. Even the creators of Black Mirror couldn’t make this year up, but they do have something to add.”

It then says that the special will be coming to Netflix soon.

The news sparked excitement for fans, who suggested that 2020 had already been a year so dystopian that only Brooker could truly satirise it.

“Charlie Brooker telling a story about 2020 is the most expected thing in 2020,” one Twitter user wrote.

Sci-fi anthology series Black Mirror has aired on Netflix since 2015, with the last season being released in June 2019.

Earlier this week, Hugh Grant revealed that he has been working with Brooker on a mockumentary about 2020, in which the Notting Hill star plays a historian looking back on the year.

It is not known whether this project is the same as the special teased by Brooker.

As well as his work on Black Mirror, the writer is also known for his Annual Wipe series, which provides a satirical look back at the year. Earlier this year, the writer created a one-off special about the pandemic, titled the Antiviral Wipe.
