From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The star is advertising the opportunity online, along with the possibility to pay $250 in exchange for a follow-back on Instagram.
Both options come with a possible payment plan for those who can’t afford to spend the entire sum all at once.
The $950 “personal Facetime” can thus be paid for in four interest-free $237.50 payments, while the $250 follow-back can be purchased in four $62.50 instalments.
There is also an option to buy a personal video from Blac Chyna for $123.
Some social media users were taken aback by the prices, as well as by the possibility to enroll in a payment plan.
“I’m finished. Imagine bailiffs turning up at your crib because you missed a payment for a FaceTime from Blac Chyna,” one person tweeted.
“Lmaooo Blac Chyna really charging $950 for a FaceTime call and $250 for a follow-back!” someone else wrote.
“Blac Chyna is selling a follow back on Instagram for $250 and a FaceTime call for $950,” another Twitter user chimed in. “2020 has officially been the strangest of years.”
The Independent has contacted Blac Chyna for comment.
