From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Tonight Big Brother returned to Channel 5, as Emma Willis welcomed the first eclectic bunch of contestants to the futuristic and decidedly green 2014 house.

Among this year's wannabe celebrities are an opinionated journalist, a Catholic lingerie model and a twerking playboy bunny with a law degree, with more faces still to be met when the double launch continues tomorrow.

Helen Wood, known for taking part in a threesome with England footballer Wayne Rooney, has also joined Big Brother. This should be 'interesting' ahead of the World Cup in Brazil.

Housemates are preparing for the first night in their minimalist home, complete with interactive LED walls, an identity scanner, the biggest swimming pool in the show's history and, of course, a myriad of mirrors.

To quote one fan on the official Big Brother Facebook page, "everything looks so uncomfortable".

Privacy is a luxury with even the open plan bathroom offering little in the way of personal space. Naturally, there are cameras everywhere, so there will be no secrets here.

Viewers of the popular reality show are in for a treat, as an intriguing new 'Power Trip' twist will see the housemates compete for the chance to control events and manipulate their rivals.

Rylan Clarke, Iain Lee and recent Celebrity Big Brother contestant Luisa Zissman will be discussing all the latest gossip with Willis on Big Brother's Bit on the Side and Big Brother's Bit on the Psyche.
