It's happening - Better Call Saul is coming back.
A brand new promo has been released for the forthcoming season of the Breaking Bad prequel that will be closer in tone with its predecessor than ever before.
While brief in length, the trailer gets this point across rather succinctly with its rapid-fire shots of bullets, corpses and Gustavo Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) who'll have a bigger appearance following his return in the third season.
One key component absent from the trailer is Jimmy McGill himself, Bob Odenkirk, who'll be returning alongside Rhea Seehorn, Patrick Fabian and Jonathan Banks who'll return as Mike Ehrmantraut.
The plot synopsis for the season confirmed the death of McGill's brother Chuck (Michael McKean) who perished in a blaze as the third season drew to a close.
“In Better Call Saul‘s fourth season, Chuck’s death catalyses Jimmy McGill’s transformation into Saul Goodman. In the wake of his loss, Jimmy takes steps into the criminal world that will put his future as a lawyer — and his relationship with Kim — in jeopardy. Chuck’s death deeply affects former colleagues Howard (Patrick Fabian) and Kim as well, putting the two of them once again on opposite sides of a battle sparked by the Brothers McGill.”
Vince Gilligan - who has handed Better Call Saul showrunning duties to Peter Gould - explained to The Independent just how darker in tone the new season will be, saying: “As with Breaking Bad, there’s humour wherever we can find it provided it’s legitimate and well-earned. but those moments of earning it are now fewer and far between.”
Better Call Saul returns to AMC on 6 August with its UK premiere arriving on Netflix the following day.
