From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul screenwriter Gennifer Hutchison tweeted about getting work underway on the next scripts, alongside a photo of Saul Goodman and Mike Ehrmantraut figurines.
The first season of the prequel is set to air on AMC on February 8, with a Netflix launch date worldwide expected to be announced sometime today.
Initial reviews of the first few episodes have been very strong, claiming that the show is successful in carving a new identity for itself in terms of tone and aesthetic rather than just trading off the successful style of Breaking Bad.
After months of teaser trailers and still shots of abandoned motel rooms, the show finally got a proper full-length trailer earlier this month.
While other glimpses we've seen focused on the show's comedic moments, this one had elements of its darkness, including a scene in which Saul is bound and gagged in the desert.
