Better Call Saul co-creator Peter Gould said the final season of the series will make viewers see Breaking Bad “in a very different light”.

The spin-off show focuses on ex-con artist Jimmy McGill as he becomes his professional alias Saul Goodman, a morally challenged criminal lawyer who later plays a major role in Breaking Bad.

Gould, who is in the process of writing the last season to the acclaimed prequel show, told The Hollywood Reporter, “By the time you finish watching Better Call Saul, you’re going to see Breaking Bad in a very different light.”

He hinted at a game-changing sixth series, stating, “I think we’re going to learn things about the characters in Breaking Bad that we didn’t know. We’re going to learn things about the events of Breaking Bad that we didn’t know.

“And we’re going to learn things about the fates of a lot of these characters that may surprise people or certainly throw them into a different light.”

The series co-creator also spoke about the challenges of writing a final season to a prequel series of another show, calling the scenario “the devil’s own Rubik’s cube because we know where these characters are and we know kind of where some of them end up”.

There are multiple storylines, as well as characters, that crossover from Better Call Saul into Breaking Bad, including the protagonist role of Jimmy McGill.

These also include Hank Schrader, Gus Fring, Steven Gomez, Victor, Tyrus Kitt and Mike Ehrmantraut.

Gould continued, “There’s a lot of limitations. There’s a lot of obligations. In some ways, that’s the fun of it, trying to make it all fit together and to make Better Call Saul its own coherent story in itself, and yet also kind of create a frame around Breaking Bad.”

Fans of the show were excited when Bryan Cranston, who played drug kingpin Walter White in Breaking Bad, recently said he would be keen to reprise his iconic role in Better Call Saul.

The last instalment of Better Call Saul was due to air in early 2021 however filming has reportedly been postponed due to the pandemic.

For the fifth consecutive year, the series has been nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series. It was also feted with numerous writing nominations and a nod for supporting actor Giancarlo Esposito, who plays Gus Fring.

However, lead actor Bob Odenkirk and co-star Rhea Seehorn were notably snubbed in their respective categories.

So far, throughout its five-year run, the show has received 39 Emmy nominations; none have translated into wins.
