Earlier, it was revealed that Ruby Rose, who played Kate Kane (aka Batwoman) throughout the show’s first season, would be stepping down from the role.
Shortly after the news broke, Beatriz wrote, ”*reads everything about Batwoman”, suggesting she was interested in taking on the role of the caped crusader.
When someone commented underneath that she should “go method”, the actor responded: “legit did dye my hair red last month.”
In a statement announcing her departure from Batwoman, Rose wrote: “This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles.”
Production on the series had been blighted by on-set accidents.
Rose had to undergo surgery after herniating two discs in her back, and a crew member was paralysed from the waist down in a separate accident.
Beatriz has long been angling for a role in a superhero franchise; she has previously spoken out about her desire to play She-Hulk in the upcoming Marvel series, telling Entertainment Tonight: ”I would die to play that role.”
However, scheduling conflicts with the ongoing production of Brooklyn Nine-Nine meant Beatriz was not able to pursue the part.
