From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. HBO has a long history of producing excellent comedy — Curb Your Enthusiasm, Flight of the Conchords, and Veep — but their latest sounds particularly obscure.

Titled Barry, the eight-episode series centres on Bill Hader’s titular character, a seasoned assassin who discovers a passion for acting while on an assignment in Los Angeles.

The broadcaster has since revealed the first teaser trailer, featuring Hader — who also co-writes and directs — along with Henry Winkler, Stephen Root, and Sarah Goldberg. Watch below.

Winkler plays Barry's inspiring teacher Gene Cousineau, while Root stars as Fuches, who arranges Barry’s hits. Goldberg plays another aspiring actor.

The series marks Hader’s directorial debut and comes as part of his exclusive development deal with HBO. Hader has previously worked on the TV series Saturday Night Live, South Park, and Documentary Now!.

Meanwhile, HBO CEO Richard Plepler recently spoke about why the American cable company decided not to bid on the Lord of the Rings TV series, which was eventually bought by Amazon.
