From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

During Tuesday’s episode (30 March) of the spin-off for Stand Up To Cancer, the contestants – KSI, Jade Thirlwall, Katherine Ryan and Stacey Dooley – were tasked with making a cherry lattice pie for the technical challenge.
Rather than attempting to make a lattice, KSI (real name Olajide Olatunji or JJ) decided to mix things up, cutting out two pastry squares and sticking them on top of his pie instead
After cooking it for just 10 minutes, KSI tried to place his pie on its stand, only for a piece to break off and cherry juice to start leaking out the side. In an attempt to save it, he flipped the cake stand upside down before the pie, leaving the juice slowly seeping out of the side.
“This might have been a bad decision,” he said.

When the pies were finally tested by the judges, Prue Leith said that she didn’t “even want to taste” the juice and semi-raw pastry. “That’s just a mush,” Paul Hollywood added, with neither judge trying the pie.
However, the incident was celebrated by fans at home, who branded the rapper’s disaster “the TV moment of the year”.
“I shall never recover,” tweeted former contestant Michael Chakraverty, while previous winner Candice Brown posted: “The moment of panic as he realised what he’d done [cry laugh emoji].”
One Twitter user wrote: “I am actually in tears at KSI’s cherry lattice pie. The realisation of what he’d done when putting it on the pedestal.”
“KSI putting the pie upside down, I genuinely cannot BREATHE,” another fan wrote.
“Can we go back to when KSI made a whole cherry pie and then turned it upside down at the end ???? I feel like that was brushed over too quickly,” one tweet read.
“I HAVE A STITCH FROM LAUGHING TOO MUCH,” another social media user said.
“@KSI on #GBBO is the best entertainment we’ve had on tv this week,” another tweet read. “Rolling on the floor laughing. Flipping his cherry pie over was tv gold. More of JJ on our screens please he is a joy to watch.”
“Thank You #GBBO for one of my most favourite episodes! Belly laughing at KSI,” one viewer wrote.
The Great Celebrity Bake Off for SU2C continues Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
