From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly have been nominated for a Bafta TV award for their hit show Saturday Night Takeaway.

The announcement comes shortly after Donnelly presented last week's show by himself, following McPartlin's charge for drink driving and subsequent return to rehab.

The nomination is for Best Entertainment Programme, for which Britain's Got Talent - another show fronted by the duo - is also nominated.

Donnelly gave an emotional speech after hosting his first solo episode of Saturday Night Takeaway, where he told the audience he "couldn't have done it without them".

Speaking after the episode had aired, he said: "I wasn't sure how I was going to do, or how you were going to react... but you carried me all the way through the show. I couldn't have done it without you."

He added: "Thank you to our amazing production team. They carried me through the show. To all the crew and staff here at the London studios, which has been our home - not just for tonight but for the last 20 years.

"We are going to miss this place enormously. We will never find a home like this so thank you."
