From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Fox’s news channel has been criticised for mistaking Will Smith for Eddie Murphy during a broadcast.

Fox 5 was running a segment on new film Bad Boys for Life, which reunites Smith with Martin Lawrence for the first time since 2003.

A scene from the film was shown on screen depicting Smith and Lawrence in character as Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett.

The caption beneath the clip read: ”Bad Boys for Life starring Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence now in theatres.”

“FOX HAD 1 JOB,” one viewer posted in a tweet hat has since gone viral.

Another wrote: “Which Fox 5 news f***ed this up? Y’all know damn well neither one is Eddie Murphy.”

“White people really do think all black people look alike,” one person responded.

Fox 5 has been contacted for comment.

Bad Boys for Life is in cinemas now. The film has been such a hit that a fourth film is in the works.
