From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Made in Chelsea star said: "I said I wanted to get to the final five and I'm really proud of myself - it is three weeks today."
Taylor, who was known for his mood swings, told Ant and Dec he had changed and was now a lot calmer after 19 days in the jungle.
The 25-year-old said: "I'm so used to having everything done my way and in the first few days I didn't know how to react to that and everyone was getting on my nerves. I think I've definitely become calmer, more relaxed about things."
Earlier on the show, Ashley Roberts was dunked into a pit of slime after failing to correctly answer questions on Sylvester Stallone.
The former Pussycat Dolls singer struggled in the red gunge while campmate Charlie Brooks searched for a yellow star in a giant star filled with insects and fish guts.
The pair teamed up for the Jungle Walk Of Shame trial to win meals for the final five contestants.
Before the trial, Brooks said: "I was totally up for doing it, I'd no idea what it entailed. It's called the Walk Of Shame and I've done that once or twice before in my life but I doubt this one will be the same."
The pair did not know which 2010 movie Stallone starred in alongside Bruce Willis, Jason Statham and Jet Li, guessing Rocky IV instead of the correct answer, The Expendables.
But they managed to win four out of a possible five meals, and the group had the hindquarters of a hare for dinner.

With chef Rosemary Shrager gone, Taylor took on the task of preparing dinner and said: "She was really beginning to do my nut in."
The campmates all received letters from home, with Brooks's daughter Kiki, seven, writing: "I am really proud of you."
The letter came a day after Kiki took part in a jungle trial which saw her waiting behind a yellow door to see her mother, but was left distraught when Brooks chose the wrong door.
She wrote: "Dear Mummy, I love you so much, you are doing brilliantly and I am really proud of you. I love the room service, we have been having ice cream, pink champagne and lots of fun on your bill every day.
"Don't worry about us, you are in it now you may as well try and win it for all of us. I can't wait to see you, you should have opened the yellow door. I was behind it. You are the best mummy in the world."
To win their Dingo Dollar Challenge treat, the celebrities had to guess who had lost the most weight in the jungle.
They guessed it was Colin Baker who lost two stone 3lb but later learned it was Shrager.
Boxer David Haye said: "In 15 days Rosemary lost 31lb - that's the equivalent of four babies weighing seven and a half pounds. We thought it was Colin too. Maybe he lost it around his face and Rosemary lost it round her stomach."
Roberts wondered what Shrager had been eating before entering the jungle and darts star Eric Bristow said: "She must have been a pig."
He added: "She doesn't really look any better with losing all that lot, she needs to lose a lot more yet."
