Television network FX have made moves to solidify their upcoming animated slate; dropping Cassius & Clay, while ordering a pilot from Louis C.K. and Albert Brooks.
It's a shame to hear Cassius & Clay, helmed by Archer's Adam Reed and Community's Megan Ganz, was getting the chop; pitched as a "post-apocalyptic buddy comedy", it would have seen It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Kaitlin Olson voicing Orwood Cassius, "a hard-drinking, quick-thinking, fast-talking bullsh*tter who has more debts than sense", and Lake Bell voicing Shopcarter Clay, "the fastest gun in the post-apocalyptic South who doesn't go looking for trouble but shares a station wagon with it."
A pilot had been ordered by FX, with Den of Geek reporting plans indicating the network were going ahead with a ten episode series. No longer, it seems. What a shame to see a promising, female-led animated comedy fall to the wayside.
FX now seem to be putting their weight behinds the likes of Louis C.K. and Albert Brooks. Having both voiced characters for Universal's animated feature The Secret Life of Pets, they've now been commissioned to co-create, co-write, and voice an untitled animated pilot for the network. That's the only information so far released, with premise details being kept under wraps.
There's no word yet on whether Louis C.K. will return for a sixth season of his beloved sitcom Louie. The show is currently on hiatus, following suit the near two-year break the comedian took in-between its third and fourth seasons. Alongside his work in The Secret Life of Pets, he's also busy producing FX shows Better Things and Baskets, starring Zach Galifianakis; as well as writing, directing, and starring in his first feature I'm a Cop.
The Secret Life of Pets hits UK theatres 24 June 2016.
