From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In April of last year, McPartlin was fined £86,000 and banned from driving for 20 months after pleading to guilty to crashing his car while exceeding twice the alcohol limit. The presenter was also diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) after the crash occurred.
He made the decision to step back from his television hosting duties, announcing in a statement: “My recovery is going very well and for that to continue having spoken to Dec and ITV, I have made the decision to take the rest of the year off.” He returned to the job this year for Britain’s Got Talent.
Titled The Comeback of Ant McPartlin, the documentary will explore how “the pressures of celebrity took their toll” on the presenter, known for being one half of the duo Ant and Dec.
It will feature experts and celebrities “who have also suffered from intense scrutiny of their private lives”.
A Channel 5 spokesperson told the Radio Times: “This film celebrates the return of one of our most loved TV stars and examines how the pressures of celebrity took their toll on Ant in a year where he faced tough personal and professional challenges.”
“Through interviews with experts who are uniquely placed to understand his struggles, and celebrities who have also suffered from intense scrutiny of their private lives, the film offers insight into Ant’s world and how he has fought back to reclaim his place as one half of Britain’s favourite entertainment double act.”
An air date is yet to be announced for the documentary.
