From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Following up on the astounding The People v. O. J. Simpson, the second season of American Crime Story will focus on The Assassination of Gianni Versace.

Starring Penélope Cruz, Darren Criss, Finn Wittrock, and Annaleigh Ashford, the show’s first trailer has been released on FX, teasing the scandalous story.

Edgar Ramirez plays the titular fashion designer, who was assassinated by Andrew Cunanan (Criss) during the serial killer’s 1997 murder spree.

The series looks set to include other murders committed by Cunanan during that three-month period, including Chicago tycoon Lee Miglin. Oscar-winner Cruz will Donatella Versace — Gianni’s brother — sporting a blonde wig in the trailer.

While the series has yet to be released — coming to the American network FX on 17 January — the third series of American Crime Story has already been announced.

Giving the simple subtitle Katrina, the series will focus on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and features Sarah Paulson and Lady Gaga.
