Alison Hammond has been confirmed as the third celebrity taking part in the forthcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing this autumn.

The ex-Big Brother contestant and former child star confirmed the news on ITV’s This Morning earlier today.

Hammond became famous after appearing as a contestant on the third series of Big Brother in 2002. She was formerly a child actress, holiday rep and cinema usherette.

The reality TV star has since appeared on Celebrity Fit Club, Celebrities Under Pressure, Celebrity Ready Steady Cook, Celebrity Stars in Their Eyes and Celebrity MasterChef.

She is also a former panellist and presenter on ITV’s flagship lunchtime chat show Loose Women.

Hammond is now perhaps best known at This Morning’s showbiz reporter.

Speaking about joining Strictly, she said: “I am absolutely overjoyed to be joining the Strictly team. I am ready to immerse myself in glitter and hard work, with a dash of fun along the way!”

Hammond joins singer Frankie Bridges and Judy Murray in the Strictly Come Dancing 2014 line-up.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One this autumn.
