This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.

The Independent is trusted by 27 million Americans from across the entire political spectrum every month. Unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock you out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. But quality journalism must still be paid for.

Last night we saw them sing their hearts out to the nation in the first live show of the year.

There was plenty of spectacle at Wembley as run of the mill boyband Generation Overload failed to impress, while Lola Saunders' dress was the subject of the judges' comments rather than her vocals. American sister act Blonde Electra put on a show with their green eyebrows and neon outfits. They could give Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj a run for their money with their eccentric style.

But Fleur East blew everyone away with her performance, as did quirky Italian Andrea Faustini, who brought the show to a close with his emotional rendition of Michael Jackson's Earth Song.

There was plenty of drama on the judges' table as Mel "thunderstorm on a sunny day" B ripped the hopefuls to shreds with her tough comments.

Simon tore several chunks out of Lou Lou as well. Ah, the beauty of hindsight.

But what did the public think? Which categories will suffer a loss this week?
