From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The podcaster and author beat out fellow contestant Jordan North to be named the show’s first ever Queen of the Castle.
TV presenter Vernon Kay was the last campmate to be eliminated from the competition as he finished in third place.
With the series having migrated from the Aussie jungle to a spooky Welsh castle, I’m a Celebrity was forced to give its familiar formula a drastic overhaul.

However, within the first couple of episodes, it became clear that not everything has changed, as Fletcher was among those enduring a stressful first trial which saw her scaling the side of a cliff.
Fletcher, 35, might be best known as a host of the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast, an audio show which earlier this year featured Kate Middleton’s first-ever podcast interview.
She’s also a successful author, having written 11 novels and topped the Sunday Times bestsellers list.
She may be recognisable to some regular ITV viewers, having appeared on the morning chat show Lorraine, and currently hosts the CBeebies TV show The Baby Club.

Speaking before the start of the series, Fletcher said: “I love having fun and being silly, and I think weirdly all those things I thought I would be as a mum, you don’t get to be as a mum, because you’re so busy doing all those other things.
“So weirdly, I feel like [I’m a Celebrity] is my chance to be that side of me again and just enjoy the experience.”

Following Fletcher’s first appearance on the show, her husband revealed to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on This Morning that she had developed a secret hand signal to communicate with her children while on I’m a Celebrity.
Some viewers have also expressed their annoyance on social media after I’m a Celebrity hosts Ant and Dec began the series by slightly mispronouncing Fletcher’s name.
As fans pointed out, the elided “o” means that Fletcher’s forename is pronounced “Gee-Van-Nah” rather than, as Ant and Dec were saying “Gee-Oh-Van-Nah”.
