From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Attentive viewers of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! noticed a reference to Marvel’s hit Avengers franchise on Sunday’s episode (22 November).
The reference took place during a “Bar-Baric” Bushtucker trial in which contestants Giovanna Fletcher, Victoria Derbyshire and Jessica Plummer were handcuffed to a bar and pelted with fish guts and offal.
After this, they needed to filter through the muck to retrieve keys that would unlock their handcuffs and allow them to go and collect stars from containers across the room.
However, the containers also contained live animals, including spiders, snakes and rats.

When Derbyshire began to take on the challenge, some fans noticed that the music had changed to a familiarly bombastic tune.
Underscoring Derbyshire’s (ultimately unsuccessful) attempt at the trial was Alan Silvestri’s theme music from 2012’s Avengers Assemble.
Viewers were quick to identify the music on social media.
“You’re looking at the new member of The Avengers right here,” joked one Twitter user, posting a picture of Derbyshire.
“The Avengers theme being played over this trial has me crying,” wrote someone else.
